One of the biggest reasons for the increase in popularity of these programs is that they allow the learner to stay employed and earning while they complete degree requirements. Convenience and flexibility are the key to the popularity of the online degree. In the not too distant past, many employers were dubious that online degrees were as academically rigourous as traditional degrees but this perception is changing rapidly.
